Launceston Junior FC

History

The Launceston Junior Football Club based at Windsor Park in Riverside, Tasmania is the junior affiliate of Tasmania’s oldest Football Club established in 1875.

The Junior Club was established 100 years later in 1975 following the demise of the Shell Mini-League (1968-1974) and in turn was a founding member of the Northern Tasmanian Junior Football Association.

From those humble beginnings in 1975 of approximately 75 players in 2 teams being Under 11 and Under 13’s the club has grown to be one of the largest and one of the most successful in the competition with around 220 players playing in 10 teams from Under 9 to Under 16’s in season 2012.

Focus

We aim to foster healthier lifestyles through skill development and participation in Australian Football and to create an enjoyable atmosphere in which to train and play whilst emphasising the importance of sportsmanship and fair-play.

Player Development and Education

In season 2008 we formalised our senior mentoring programme whereby we have enlisted 4 of the senior club players (2 of which have VFL experience) to work with the players in all age groups on a regular basis.

This has helped the younger players with skill development and for the older players it has given the players an insight into what will be required of them in the next steps of their football lives.

We also conduct healthy lifestyles education including alcohol, drugs and nutrition information sessions annually.
