TWL 18th May – Launceston v Clarence at Windsor Park

May 14, 2014

This Sunday the Lady Blues take on Clarence where the rivalry is as strong in the women’s as it is in the men’s. The girls are working very hard under coach Mathew Cornish especially on their fitness and game plan.

Coach Cornish has immense respect around the group and he has driven this team from a bit of a rabble last year to a driven and expectant team. The girls are craving the hard work and responding well to a new game style involving plenty of run.

Such has the improvement been that there has been some representative acknowledgements with 3 players included in the state under age team. Courtney Webb as a forward pocket dynamo, Ash Bowen and Maggie Cuthbertson across the half back line will be excellent inclusions this week after their state football commitments.

Additionally senior players in Ashlee Carey (captain), Meagan Kiely, Kiara Foley, Angela Dickson, Claudia Matteo, Jenna Cousens, Maggie Cuthbertson and Kath Johnson have all been selected in a preliminary state squad. As you can see plenty of reward for some individuals and their hard work.

Having beaten Lauderdale last week by some 20 goals at Swansea the girls are keen to take on the ladder leader again in Clarence. Having travelled to Hobart to take them on earlier in the year they fell agonisingly short after leading all day. The girls belief grew after this effort and know that they are improving to the levels required to compete with every team.

With Coach Cornish and assistant Ben Arnold the team is on the rise and would love any support this week at Windsor Park on Sunday. Come and watch some quality womens football and as I’m sure you are all well aware of the tradition and rivalry between these two great clubs, crowd support is muchly appreciated.

Hope to see you all there!
